What Makes Resilience Naturopathic Medicine Different?

Updated: Jul 30

Fatigue.

Chronic pain.

Illness and colds.

Not feeling like yourself.

Do any of these symptoms sound familiar? If so, you’re not alone. It’s estimated that up to eight out of 1,000 people are affected by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in America, while an estimated 20% of the global population live with chronic pain.

It seems like everywhere you look, legacy media is airing another story about a new bug making its way through the population. At the same time, mental health statistics paint an alarming picture of the inner state of many Americans.

Possibly more disturbing than the number of people suffering from various health conditions is that they’ve become so pervasive that they’re normalized. The normalization of illness speaks volumes of mainstream medical care while opening an opportunity to shift healthcare paradigms toward healing. Resilience Naturopathic Medicine opened because our founder discovered conventional medical care is failing the population.

However, there’s hope in other forms of medicine, such as naturopathy. Naturopathic medicine facilitates the wellness and recovery that elude so many patients today.

Why The Current Medical System Is Failing You

Not so long ago, it was customary to have a relationship with your doctor. Upon entering the exam room, they knew who you were and your history and would take their time to understand your concerns for any given visit.

Today’s norm is an average of seven minutes with your doctor once a year. Pressing concerns are often outsourced to urgent care or any available physician. This is hardly a model of care that allows your doctor to understand your health. Because of a system beholden to insurance and pharmaceutical companies, it’s unlikely that underlying factors contributing to presenting symptoms will be considered when deciding treatment strategies.

Moreover, there’s no opportunity for proactive healthcare; most people see their doctor when the problem has presented itself and are now just reacting with medication.

Treating The Symptom & Not The Root Cause

Most healthcare professionals go into their field because they want to help people but quickly find themselves overloaded. The system’s constraints normalize treating patient symptoms instead of the root cause.

For example, if you were to go to the doctor for chronic pain, you would likely leave with a prescription for a painkiller and little else. While the medication offers temporary relief, it doesn’t address the root cause ensuring the problem will persist. As long as the problem persists, you’ll depend on the medication.

This healthcare approach keeps patients in a vicious cycle.

The question is: if healthcare is failing the population, then why doesn’t the population go elsewhere?

The simple answer is: many people don’t know there’s an alternative.

That’s why we founded Resilience Naturopathic Medicine.

What Is Naturopathic Medicine?

While naturopathic medicine integrates the contributions of modern medical knowledge when needed, its main focus is identifying the root cause of illness and treating it with traditional herbal medicine, diet, and lifestyle changes.

A core tenet of naturopathic medicine is its belief that the body can heal itself and that health is a function of the patient as a whole, not an isolated issue. At Resilience Naturopathic Medicine, a holistic approach is at the heart of everything we do.

What is a holistic approach?

While we explore your health history, we also inquire about:

  • Stress levels

  • Diet

  • Exercise

  • Career satisfaction

  • Injuries

  • Overall quality of life

Digging deep for each patient is essential because our treatment plans are so individualized and nuanced. We understand it’s a drastic change if you’re used to the conventional medical system. However, as we co-create your wellness strategy, you’ll see all the pieces come together.

Medical Treatment Rooted In Passion

Our founder, Dr. Camille Koontz, experienced the flaws of conventional medical care first-hand while working as a hospital nurse. Her heart broke for the patients stuck in an incompetent system, unable to free them of their chronic pain. Her disappointment led her to naturopathic medicine, and after becoming a Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine, she and her medical team opened the doors to Resilience Naturopathic Medicine.

Healthcare Beyond The Root Cause

Have you ever wondered why so many people fail to achieve their goals and resolutions?

Though every situation is different, a common reason is people try to make changes on their own. Change is difficult, especially the more established you are in your routines. Making changes to your health is no exception.

One key issue the founding team of Resilience Naturopathic Medicine noticed is that patients would be on board for their healthcare plans during their appointments. But they had difficulty staying the course when it came time to execute in everyday life.

That’s why we designed our programs to go beyond an initial diagnosis and plan creation phase by offering a health coaching program. Our in-house health coach started her health journey thanks to a rash that broke out when she was a child. After months of testing and trying different medications, her doctor realized he should test for Celiac. That was the source of the problem, but it was clear that the go-to in traditional health was ineffective medication, prolonging her pain.

She now guides our patients by integrating their personalized healthcare plans into their everyday lives Our patients report feeling supported and empowered, especially during the initial time the changes are being made, which can be particularly challenging.

The Resilience Naturopathic Medicine process empowers patients to understand and advocate for their health. We’re always here to support you, but ultimately you have the tools you need to thrive in health and life.
